And the Mystery Sikorsky S-42 is...

Grumman Goose Photos

Which of the 10 Sikorsky S-42 aircraft built is this one ?  My reference material shows no name assigned to an S-42 with the name "Trinidad Clipper" on the bow as shown in the 3 photos.

Photo dated November 2, 1937, Miami Florida.

1st reply:

"Concerning mystery S-42....a possible key is the small window just ahead of the large ones.  Unless PAA added it later, the following planes DID NOT have it:

NC822M, NC823M, NC16735.

Also, it can’t be NC824M or NC16734 because they crashed before your photo was taken, thus that leaves the other five as candidates.

After more studying, I think you can also rule out the other S-42B because the B’s had different cowlings.  Thus, it can only be one of the four S-42A’s."

Many thanks to  Thomas J Kalina  for this reply. ( Note: Thomas flys the S-38 replica, N6V,  for Johnson Wax )
